The animal park is part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums making great strides in saving animals with a countrywide connection of animal habitats. The goal of the group is to extend the life of endangered animals and provide captive habitats with a diverse range of wildlife. The zoo makes conscious efforts to protect local species like the East Tennessee Bog Turtle and various salamanders while helping global animals.
Unbelievable experiences with close-up exhibits and trails
Exhibits like Chimp Ridge and Grasslands Africa allow park visitors the chance to walk through the zoo and see the animals in settings one might see in nature. Animal Encounter Talks teach visitors about the diets and habitats for a specific species. Talks occur several times each day from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Night Safaris take groups of people around the zoo after hours to see an in-depth look at the care and requirements of operating a large animal park. The zoo even holds a mobile program where they use a special transport vehicle to bring various species to schools and educational events.
Interactive exhibits
Guests will always remember coming to Zoo Knoxville and riding a camel. Taking part in the Williams Family Giraffe Encounter may get you a giraffe kiss. The Zoo Choo Train takes families around the Koi pond for a glimpse of these stunning fish in a natural setting. Tickets are $3 per person. Private tours give you the chance to see animals with a park caretaker where you can ask any questions you want. It requires membership to the Circle of Friends club to take part in these extraordinary tours.
Park admission and general information
This Knoxville TN attraction sits at 3500 Knoxville Zoo Drive. You can access the park from exit 392 on Interstate 40. There are over 800 animals to see and watch when visiting the park. Open admission hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day except for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Tickets are available for sale until 3:00 p.m. daily. Adult admission is $19.95 with children five and over and senior tickets at $16.95. Kids under the age of four can get in for free. Parking is $5 unless you are an annual pass member. There are two lots for parking. One on the upper level and one on the ground level of the zoo.
