Getting to Sharp’s Ridge Memorial Park in Knoxville TN

There are several park entrances. The main gate is at 329 Sharp’s Ridge Memorial Park Drive. To get to the park from Interstate 40, you can take the Broadway exit for a little over two miles. Make a left turn on Ludlow Street, and then a right onto Sharp’s Ridge Memorial Park Road. You can access the park from either side of the street.

If you are coming from the northern part of the area like Fountain City, then take Interstate 640 to the Broadway exit. Follow this road for half a mile until you reach Ludlow Avenue. Take a left here and continue on this road until reaching Sharp’s Ridge Memorial Park Road.

Enjoy spectacular mountainous views

The overlook deck sits about three-fourths of the way up the main hill in the green space. This deck provides expansive views of the Smokey Mountains. Visitors can learn the names of the mountain peaks while hiking to the platform with signs marking the various elevations. The wooden railing along the deck is low enough to offer unobstructed views to see for miles.

Fun places for bird watching

While visiting the park, you are likely to see common birds like robins, blue jays, and pigeons. There are many exciting species to watch for in this park like the Pacific and Red-throated Loons. Nearly five miles of natural hiking trails

If you live in the vicinity of Hanover and Ridge Road, then you can access the trails from this point. Other entrances are across from the cell tower and across from the grilling areas and picnic shelters. The paths dry quickly after a rain and range from long, flat stretches to moderate hills and slopes.

Extreme mountain biking for experienced riders

For the more active individual, a moderate to expert level, downhill mountain bike trail awaits. This trail is 0.6 miles and no pets or hikers are allowed on this path because of the high bike speeds. The highlight is a five G out that busts into table tops. Riders like the variety of wide berms, steep drops, and rollers on the course. Knight Fall Trail is a black diamond trail meaning extreme caution and experience is necessary to master this downhill adrenaline rush.

Family time near downtown Knoxville

Since Sharp’s Ridge Veterans Park is only ten minutes from the center of town, this park is convenient for families to reach after work or for a weekend trip. Two shelters with picnic tables provide room for resting and replenishing. Dogs are allowed at the park as long as they are on a leash.

The park is open from sunrise to sunset. There are no horses or motorized vehicles in this recreational area. Guests can reserve shelters at the Knoxville Government site. Whether you want peace and tranquility or fun and excitement, this fabulous park has it all.
