Whether you live in or are planning to visit the city of Knoxville TN, there is one place that you may want to add to your vacation itinerary. The World’s Fair Park is one of the most famous places in the city. This destination is the location of the 1982 World’s Fair. The only things left of the event are the Tennessee Amphitheater and the Sunsphere. This park offers over 15 acres of green space for families and visitors to love.
The Tennessee Amphitheater
This structure was first home to country and classical music events for the community. The stage is over 80 feet long and 56 feet wide. The amphitheater can seat 1,000 attendees. There are four parking areas for this section of the park. You can access these places from Eleventh Street, World’s Fair Park Drive, and Clinch Avenue. The Fort Kid lot is the smallest parking area with 78 parking spaces. The World’s Fair Parking Lot has room for 100 cars and four buses. Blackstock Lot has space for over 375 vehicles. The largest parking zone for the Tennessee Amphitheater is the Locust Street Garage with over 640 spaces.
The massive performance lawn area
This section of the park is a meticulously landscaped amphitheater where concerts, city festivals, and parties happen frequently. The space is bigger than the size of two football fields making room for hundreds of visitors. The area is surrounded with a fence and has three gates to enter during events.
The lake area and Volunteer Landing
Whether you want to attend or host an event or just spend a little quiet time reflecting by the water’s edge, Volunteer Landing in the World’s Fair Park is a popular place to visit. A grassy area and water fountains along with a tower are the main features in this part of the park. The tower has a refreshment area for guests attending local functions.
Directions to the World’s Fair Park in Knoxville
When in downtown Knoxville TN, take 11th street to Clinch Avenue. Take a left on Clinch Avenue and another left when you get to World’s Fair Park Drive to reach the park grounds. The park has a picnic shelter, restrooms, a paved trail that runs through the area, and a connection to the Second Creek Greenway.

- Summer visiting hours are Monday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Sundays from 12:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
- Open October from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Children can enjoy the splash pad near the fountains for a fun way to cool off when the Knoxville temperatures rise. Bicycling, skating, and riding scooters are permitted at the park. Dogs are allowed to visit as long as they remain on a leash at all times. The hiking trails are excellent places for running and walking. There are also a shelter and a playground for families to use for parties and large gatherings.

- Pets must stay on a leash and listen to the owner
- No swimming permitted in the lake
- No barbecuing
- Liquor consumption is not permitted without a city license or permit for alcoholic beverages
- No use of cleats or spikes
- No glass containers in the fountain area
- Pets are not allowed to use the splash pad
- No skateboarding on park grounds
- No fires
